E-books at the Homer Library!

Did you know that you can now access e-Books through our library?  Thanks to the Secretary of State and the Illinois State Library, we now have access to e-Books through a great program, eRead Illinois. This program was created to help expand access to e-books across the state and is a great benefit to small, rural libraries like ours. This program gives our patrons access to thousands of e-Books and audio books on the Baker & Taylor Axis 360 platform.

Homer Community Library card holders can download an app to their smart phone, iPad, most Kindles, or software for either their Mac or PC computer.  Each device has a slightly different set of instructions but they are all pretty easy to set up and use.  You can find full instructions and more information at our website www.homercommunitylibrary.com - just click on the eBooks link at the top of the page. If you can't access our site or just prefer in-person help, come to one of our help sessions.

The Homer Community Library will hold two help sessions where people can come in and find out more about e-Books and get help setting up their devices.  Come and visit us from 5-7pm on either Thursday, October 20th or Monday, October 24th to find out more about this program or to get assistance.  If you can't make it either of these times just call the librarians and schedule a time to come in.

If you don't currently have a Homer Community Library card and would like to take advantage of this new service, contact us.  If you live in the Village of Homer proper, you pay taxes that support the library so are eligible to receive a library card.  We just need proof of residency and a photo ID.  If you live within the Heritage School District and do not have another library that serves you (Sidell, St. Joseph, or Vance Township might be your home library) you can purchase a non-resident membership for just $37.00 per year which covers everyone in your household. If you're not sure of your status, contact us and we will help you out.

The Homer Community Library is located within the Village Hall at 500 East 2nd Street in Homer. We are open 2-7pm Mon, Tues, Thur, and Fri; 9am-2pm Weds; and 10am-2pm Sat.  Our phone number is 217-896-2121 and our email is homerlibrarian@gmail.com.

DVD Wish List

OMG - I am so bad about trying to keep this blog up to date.  I just need a volunteer social media person to update my blog and Facebook page.

Anyway.... today's topic is about movies - specifically, those we don't have.... (Seriously??? We don't have a copy of Titanic on DVD?!?!?)

While we have a considerable (I think) movie selection for a library our size, every now and then I am shocked when a patron asks for a movie that I'm sure we have but we don't. After weeding out all of our VHS movies, there is a long list of titles we are missing. We are hoping the community may be able to help by donating any of these movies on DVD that they may have laying around and no longer watch. Remember, donations to the library can be tax deductible, just ask the librarians.
